![]() Again I love the drumming on this track and the guitar flares are a nice touch that add more texture to the instrumentation. The lyrics are again much more emotion driven as well this time being more bitter and sarcastic as the narrator of the track insults a boy who sees things in a more positive, rose-tinted, way while the narrator is stuck seeing the world in a more realistic and less optimistic way. William’s is also great on the track at just conveying the emotion and weight of the song, the music is upbeat but the vocals sound much heavier and the contrast between the two is a really nice way of boosting the emotional resonance of the track.įollowing on from that we have Rose Coloured Boy which is another new wave sound, this time a much more relaxed Caribbean-esque vibe. I mean the percussion on the Self Titled album isn’t bad but I feel Farro is just a good drummer and having him back on Hard Times was good to hear. Also the drumming is brilliant, the loss of Zac’s drumming I feel is still a mark against the Self Titled album for me and it’s just good to have him back in the band. Willaims would also go on to state that her mental health had also taken a turn for the worse throughout all this and she had even privatley left the band for a short time for the sake of her health. ![]() Williams would also go through a divorce with her then husband Chad Guilbert from fellow pop-punk band New Found Glory. Unfortunatley that high wouldn’t last forever as in 2015 the bands long time bassist Jeremy Davis would leave the band and he would be involved with lawsuits agaisnt the band and Hayley Williams directly until 2017. Something that I often brought up in my review for the Self Titled album was that the sound had become a lot more upbeat sounding with more positive lyrics and more bouncy and upbeat music, and even outside of that the band seemed to be in a much better place. ![]() After the more positive sound on the bands 2013 release the band’s next album would be a stark contrast with After Laughter being, in my mind, the most vulnerable and heartfelt the band have been to date…
